Inspired by true events, this is the story of Michael “Eddie” Edwards, a plasterer from Cheltenham who dreams of Olympic glory. Unfortunately, his athletic ability doesn’t match his ambition and his efforts are mocked by the nation’s sporting establishment. Undeterred, Eddie attempts to master the art of ski-jumping – a sport for which Britain has never previously had a competitor. Together with his charismatic but troubled coach, they take on the 1988 Calgary Olympics, winning the hearts of audiences around the world in the process. This feel-good comedy tells its story with broad strokes, but like its main character wears its heart on its sleeve, putting forward an empowering message about believing in yourself and never giving up.
This film is based on the true stories of two runners, Eric Liddell and Harold Abraham, taking part in the 1924 Olympics.
