Action and Adventure, Science Fiction and Fantasy
After yet another international incident resulting in destruction and loss of life, many are questioning whether The Avengers need to have their powers checked. The superheroes themselves are divided over the merits and ethical debates around the issue, giving rise to unprecedented conflict amongst the team, with the two camps led by Captain America and Iron Man. Tensions escalate even further when an old friend from Cap’s past reemerges. The film balances globe-trotting geography, kinetic action and a bewildering array of characters (including a new appearance from a certain web-slinger) with tremendous skill. The Cinematic Universe advances in hugely entertaining fashion, while raising real issues around personal liberty, accountability and doing “the right thing”, all with the familiar Marvel lightness of touch.
