Synopsis

Ben is a devoted but unconventional father who has opted to withdraw his six children from mainstream society and raise them in the American wilderness. The beneficiaries of a robust physical and intellectual education, in many ways they show maturity way beyond their years. However their environment has also left them devoid of any empathy or social skills. Following the sudden death of Ben’s disturbed wife, the family are forced to leave their self-enclosed world, embarking on a journey in which Ben will find his attitudes severely challenged, and his children exposed to temptations they had previously been sheltered from. The film raises interesting ethical questions without passing judgement or taking sides, allowing its audience to make up their own minds.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
