Ben Berman is a documentary filmmaker who has set out to make a film about The Amazing Johnathan, a charismatic and legendary comedian who incorporates magic and illusions into his stage act. The Amazing Johnathan has recently been recovering after being diagnosed with a terminal illness and is soon to embark on a comeback tour around the United States after being out of action for a year. Whilst things seem to be relatively normal at first, Ben soon discovers that there is more than one film crew that has been hired to document his subject and begins to question the validity of the entire production. This meta-documentary deals with the ethical relationship between a filmmaker and his subject whilst also providing poignant and often hilarious insights into the creative process.
