In 1889, the civil engineer Gustave Eiffel completed the construction of a magnificently tall tower at the heart of Paris, which became one of the most iconic monuments in the world and a timeless backdrop for the ‘City of Love’. Legend has it that the Eiffel Tower itself was born of a passionate love. This romantic historical fiction draws inspiration from the French visionary’s personal life and his long-lost love, Adrienne Bourgès. As he considers whether to embark on an ambitious project for the World Fair, Gustave re-encounters Adrienne, the woman he once hoped to marry but who is now his colleague’s wife. Feelings and memories which have long been buried resurface, spurring Gustave on the adventure of building an everlasting tribute to the one who got away. With insights into the history of civil engineering, this French-language film is rich in period set pieces and lessons in love.
