Mrs. Bennet wants the best for her five daughters, which in her eyes means for them to each find a suitable match and get married. There is much excitement when a pair of eligible gentlemen arrive in town, but Elizabeth, one of the eldest daughters, is not impressed by Mr. Darcy’s proud and snooty attitude. Between Mrs. Bennet’s hilarious eagerness and questionable rumors about various suitors, it’s no wonder that Elizabeth and her sisters have trouble figuring out how to follow their heart. This light-hearted reimagining of Jane Austen’s novel shifts the story to the early Victorian period, adding a flamboyant flare to the characters’ costumes. Made in Hollywood during World War II, the film paints a nostalgic vision of England in bygone times.
