This period horror takes place in the year 1838, within the fictional town of Wisborg, Germany and the surrounding Bavarian mountains. Newly married socialite Ellen Hutter is keeping a secret from her husband Thomas but, before it comes to light, he is sent away on a mysterious but lucrative commission by his employer to the manor of Herr Knock. Upon arriving, Thomas finds a nightmarish world presided over by the terrifying, vampiric creature known as Nosferatu – and soon the real reason for his visit comes to light. With a great evil on the verge of being unleashed on Wisborg and Ellen’s dangerous secret making her a target, Thomas must rush to find a solution or lose everything he holds dear. A gothic horror film based on the 1922 German silent film, this updated version is nevertheless a faithful re-telling with dark themes around maturity, loneliness and the oppression of women.
