Aoyama-kun is a smart, young but precocious boy obsessed with scientific research who is astonished at the sudden appearance of penguins in his small inland town, hundreds of miles away from their habitat. As more and more of the flightless black-and-white birds begin to turn up in unexpected areas, Aoyama-kun decides to gather his friends and put his scientific skills to the test, his investigation leading him to a mysterious young woman who works at a local dental clinic. What begins as a fantastical adventure suddenly becomes something much bigger, stranger and dangerous than Aoyama-kun could have predicted. This lovingly drawn anime film filled with childhood wonder deals with the complexities of growing up and the mysteries that growing up does not always have an answer for.
