Totsuko is an outwardly shy student who attends a Catholic boarding high school in Japan, but secretly she is very excitable and sees people as bright colours (a form of synaesthesia). After developing a crush on her classmate, Kimi – whose colourful aura is a beautiful shade of blue – she goes on a mission to find her when Kimi stops attending school. Totsuko tracks her down in a bookstore and learns that Kimi is teaching herself to play guitar. They meet Rui, a shy boy with an attractive green aura, and Totsuko impulsively proposes that the three of them form a band. The teen trio discover a sense of freedom and exhilaration playing together, and soon start writing songs of their own. But each of them is hiding something from a loved one, and they must learn to be as bold and honest in the rest of their lives as they are in their music.
