At 11.30pm on 11 October 1975, a fearless and ferocious troupe of young comedians, writers, actors, and performers changed the course of television history when they debuted ‘Saturday Night Live.’ Affectionately known as SNL, and now a staple in weekly US television, the hit comedy show was seen as a massive risk when it was initially launched. This comedy-drama is set in real time across the hour and a half which immediately preceded the airing of the pilot as the show’s producer, Lorne Michaels, scrambles to address the many disruptive incidents that threaten to unravel his creation. Amongst an unruly cast each causing chaos in a different way – including the likes of George Carlin, John Belushi, and Chevy Chase – and a writing team facing their own issues with the censor, Lorne also has to contend with the head of the network, NBC, who threatens to pull the show at a moment’s notice.
very strong language, strong sex references, drug misuse, nudity
