In this documentary, three custodians of stately homes are interviewed, each with differing strengths of opinions around land ownership and their duty to the public. While one has far more traditional and conservative views, the others seek to provide access to the public but stress the need to balance this with preservation and duty. We also hear from campaigns who seek to democratise access to the huge areas of land in England which are currently deemed to be private and who demand their right to roam, as is the case in Scotland where the law affords greater rights to the public. ‘Our Land’ is an engaging introduction to an often-underdiscussed subject and explores themes around heritage, inequality, and citizenship.
