In a sleepy English village, shepherd George Hardy spends each evening reading murder-mystery novels to his flock of sheep. While they are captivated by the stories, they otherwise live in blissful ignorance, believing that death only exists within fiction and willing themselves to forget any uncomfortable situation that arises. When George is found dead outside his trailer one morning, reporter Elliot Matthews suspects foul play and encourages Tim Derry, the town’s only police officer, to investigate. After Tim concludes that George was poisoned, the sheep decide to solve the mystery by themselves. At the reading of George’s will, various members of the community attend and discover that he had a twin son and daughter who were sent away for adoption after his wife died in childbirth, and also that he was secretly a millionaire. With someone set to inherit so much, the sheep are determined to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. The Sheep Detectives is a charming, wholesome comedy-drama which deals with themes around family, memory, and death.
