In a bid to urge the government to stop investing in fossil fuels, the UK-based protest movement Just Stop Oil has taken drastic action such as staging roadblock protests, disrupting major sporting events and even throwing soup over famous paintings in museums. This documentary, filmed from the sympathetic yet concerned perspective of the boyfriend of one of the group’s young co-founders, doesn’t shy away from the public’s reaction to these controversial tactics. The film follows several activists, including a student, a vicar, and a blind woman who gave up her job to focus on civil resistance, as they face legal and personal consequences for their involvement with Just Stop Oil. But at the core of their message is an existential question: what are we willing to sacrifice for the sake of raising awareness about the climate crisis? A thought-provoking documentary that will generate fruitful debate about the right to protest, media portrayals, legal procedures.
