Having lived in Wales for decades, Elemchi Nwosu explores the legacy of the Nigerian Civil War (the Biafran War, which her parents survived and which profoundly disrupted their life. Their experiences, and the migration story that followed, form part of Elemchi’s own story as a member of the Igbo diaspora. With a deep enthusiasm for her culture and the desire to understand her ancestral roots, she embarks on a personal journey from Wales back to southeastern Nigeria, immersing herself in the traditions, language, history and rituals of the Igbo people. This documentary explores questions of identity and belonging and what it means to preserve and pass cultural heritage on to future generations.
Er iddi fyw yng Nghymru am ddegwadau, roedd Elemchi Nwosu yn awyddus i ddysgu am ei chefndir ac am y Rhyfel Cartref yn Nigeria (Rhyfel Biafran), sef rhyfel y wnaeth ei rhieni hi ei hun fyw drwyddo ac a wnaeth gael effaith mawr ar eu bywyd fel teulu. Yn y ffilm diddorol hon, mae Elemchi yn mynd ati i ddysgu mwy am fod yn Igbo alltud. Mae’n dysgu am ei chefndir a gwreiddiau teuluol, yn teithio nôl i dde ddwyrain Nigeria ac yn cael blas ar ddiwylliant, traddodiadau, iaith a hanes pobl Igbo. Ffilm ddogfen yw hon sy’n ein hannog i feddwl a thrafod ein hunaniaeth a’r cysyniad o berthyn, ond yn fwy na hynny, pwysigrwydd rannu a gwarchod ein diwylliant gydag eraill.
