Synopsis

This epic love story is set in Russia during the early part of the 20th century, when revolution and war changed the face of the nation. Omar Sharif plays the title's doctor, an aspiring poet who befriends the beautiful Lara in more peaceful times before the two are thrown together by conflict. Wonderfully acted by an outstanding cast, the film notched up ten Oscar nominations, including wins for its sumptuous cinematography and fantastic music-box score. An enthralling cinematic experience.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
