Synopsis

The ancient Roman epic had been firmly out of fashion for almost 40 years when director Ridley Scott took a chance with this film. He calculated that casts of thousands were no longer necessary in the era of computer-generated imagery. The stunning recreation of the Roman Empire he achieved is the setting for the story of Maximus, a general-turned-gladiator who comes to fight in the Colosseum on this path to his revenge on the sinister new Emperor, Commodus. The result is a dramatic and action-packed tale of honour and heroism that will have you on the edge of your seat.
