Drama, War Films
French (English subtitles)
One of the finest films ever made about the harsh realities of war. During World War One, three French soldiers - aristocratic De Boeldier, ordinary working man Marechal, and banker Rosenthal - are held in a prison camp, from which they are determined to escape by digging a tunnel. The prison commander is von Rauffenstein, an aristocratic German, who treats De Boeldier with respect, seeing him as a peer despite them being prisoner and guard. This is a deeply moving tale of camaraderie, bravery and sacrifice, which shows the humanity of people on both sides of the war.
Influential French crime drama, about a Parisian gangster who flees to French-controlled Algiers and falls for a visiting Frenchwoman.
