Alicia is a high-society party girl whose American father has just been convicted as a German spy. She gets the chance to clear her name when US agent Devlin asks her to go undercover in Rio and infiltrate a group of her father's friends. The two eventually embark on a twisted love affair - while all around them a thriller plot involving Nazis, uranium and a mother-fixated mastermind twists and turns with director Alfred Hitchcock's trademark sly wit.
