Synopsis

This lavish screen version of F Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz Age novel centres around the mysterious Jay Gatsby, a man who can buy anything he wants but only wants a woman he can't have - the flighty Daisy. It's a faithful adaptation and has a fantastic sense of period (it won the Oscar for best costume design), recreating the hedonistic early 1920s before the Wall Street Crash ushered in the Great Depression.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
