Synopsis

This handsome period-drama details a tumultuous tale of romance and deceit at the court of Queen Elizabeth I. The Virgin Queen is in love with the dashing Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex. Her love gradually turns to concern, however, as Robert's growing popularity across the country threatens her power. She hopes to keep him by her side, but he commits to a military campaign in Ireland. Defeated, and believing he has been betrayed, Robert returns to London, determined to take the throne...
