Ceri-Ellen reviews The Vanishing (15)

I'm going to start this review by thanking Into Film Cymru for inviting me to see The Vanishing and attend a Q&A with writer Celyn Jones (who also happens to be an Into Film Cymru Ambassador). It was such a wonderful and inspiring experience.

Celyn told me that the film starts a conversation, which is very true as me and my boyfriend couldn't stop talking about it on the way home! What can I say, I love a good story behind a film, this one is about the disappearance of three lighthouse keepers in 1900. It's not a theory or a documentary, it's simply imagination and I believe many more are talking about the disappearance now.

I was slightly scared at some parts but it was more paced rather than it being edge of your seat then fall off at the end like most thrillers. This made the film more realistic and for me as an actress, that's very important.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't have watched it if I had heard it was a thriller and with the dark promotion photo. I was slightly apprehensive when the film started but my god, it was great! The cast and crew were so talented. It was also great to see so many people (including me) appreciating the lighting and shots so much as well!

So, if you're a fan of bloody, mystery, thriller films then please go watch this (slightly scary) masterpiece. If you're not a fan of these kinds of films, watch anyways because it's incredible. Just hold on tight to whoever is next to you (if you go with someone else!)

Today (4 June) also marks Celyn Jones' birthday and we wanted to mark the occassion by thanking him for his continued passionate commitment to providing our members with new, exciting and essential experiences in the film industry.
