Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
To celebrate the recent cinema release of Disney and Pixar's Elio, we launched a brand-new learning resource. Universe Explorers is a free learning sequence for primary learners aged 6-11, making links to English/literacy, science, citizenship and PSHE, and offering a launchpad for self-discovery.
As part of the resource we ran a 'Your Planet Needs You' competition, which asked young people to take inspiration from Elio's journey in the film, and imagine that they are a representative of Earth, delivering urgent messages around climate change to help other planets protect themselves and learn from Earth's experience.
Congratulations to Shanjjana, aged 11, from Hillside School in Aberdeen, Scotland, whose colourful informational poster encompasses a wide range of environmental tips, ranging from keeping the oceans clean and planting more trees, to using electric vehicles instead of those powered by fossil fuels, or ideally using public transportation or even walking. With the bright array of colours and drawings used, Shanjjana's message is sure to get across to even the most alien of civilisations.
Shanjjana has won an 'Earth kit' worth over £350 for her whole class, including an 'Oracy Easi-Speaking' kit and an 'Earth and Space Experiments' kit, which we hope will provide a wonderful opportunity for her class to continue engaging in creative activities together. Check out her winning entry below.
Universe Explorer is a free learning sequence for primary learners aged 6-11, making links to English/literacy, science, citizenship and PSHE, and offering a launchpad for self-discovery. This series of interactive activities summons pupils on a space odyssey that'll skyrocket their oracy and leadership skills.
The resource features discursive and creative activities that reflect Elio's new experiences as a representative of Earth, offering pupils a chance to practice persuasion, presentation and leadership skills.
Through an exploration of imaginary planets and their representatives, Universe Explorer offers learners opportunities to develop communication, relationship building and leadership skills. By considering techniques for connecting with others and what makes a good leader, each pupil will further their understanding of themself and others.
