CLOUT is a coming-of-age drama that explores the dark side of social media through the lives of four friends at school. At its centre is Oskar, whose pursuit of online fame begins to blur the line between reality and illusion.

Inspired by The Secret History, Stand By Me, and Black Mirror, CLOUT is a cautionary tale about identity, influence, and the emotional cost of a life lived online. The narrative serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of staying grounded in the real world, urging viewers to seek authentic human connection over digital approval. Jordan will also screen the short behind the scenes film which film features the young actors talking about the impact social media and mobile phones have on their lives"

This screening will followed by a talk from Jordan Murphy Doidge, the writer & director of CLOUT.

Synopsis

At an elite boarding school in England, Oskar and his friends are struggling to make a name for themselves in the popular circles. Oskar, in particular, spends his days making manufactured videos for his social media, craving and chasing online attention from his peers. Known for telling tall tales, if not outright lying, the faculty, the other pupils and even his closest friends have begun to distrust whatever Oskar tells them. However, when Oskar believes he has discovered something morbid in the nearby lake, he swears that, this time, he is telling the truth, getting the attention of the older, popular students. Will this be Oskar’s time to shine or has his clout-chasing gone too far? A cautionary tale about identity, influence, and the emotional cost of a life lived online.
