Pansy is not a very pleasant person to be around. Her days are spent lashing out at those around her in increasingly creative ways, with her rundown and meek plumber husband Curtley or her introverted adult son Moses taking the brunt of her ire. The only person in her life who she seems to have respect for is her hairdresser sister Chantal, whose optimism, love for her daughters and zest for life is in complete opposition to Pansy. Despite their differences, Chantal remains sympathetic to her sister but, during a Mother's Day celebration, latent emotions will rise to the surface, breaking the veneer of normalcy that the family had been clinging onto. This realist film from legendary British filmmaker Mike Leigh tackles strong themes of mental health and grief, treading a fine line between being hilarious and heartbreaking without ever losing sight of its humanity.
