During increasingly turbulent and uncertain times, looking to the past to gain knowledge, understanding, perspective, and critical thinking, is as vital as ever. Film can be a fantastic way of engaging young audiences with this subject, using its unique ability to capture the imagination and stimulate conversation, develop empathy or just encourage a healthy debate around historical accuracy. The films in this strand look to stories from our past - large and small, triumphant and infamous, ancient and modern to better understand what came before us and tell us something about the way we live now.
