Confirmed as a box-office draw by his success in Independence Day and Men in Black, Will Smith extended his range with this 1930s-set sports drama directed by Robert Redford. Smith shows a new calmness, playing a golfing caddy and guru who puts the swing back into local boy and broken war veteran Matt Damon's game during a competition that Damon's former girlfriend, Charlize Theron, has organised to try and save her late father's golf course. Redford directs with understated assurance, and opens out the sport into a metaphor for life.
This film has a few uses of mild bad language and a few mild sex references.
