Synopsis

In this beautifully photographed coming-of-age tearjerker, headstrong teen Katy is determined to defy her father when he tells her she must finish school instead of starting work on the family horse ranch in Wyoming. She runs away from home and disappears into the mountains, where she soon finds a wounded mustang; her mind made up, Katy resolves to nurse 'Flicka' back to health and prove herself a passionate rancher to her father. But tragedy is just around the corner.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
