In what is considered to be director Alfred Hitchcock's one true American comedy, Ann and David Smith are, in true screwball style, a lovingly bickering couple. One day, Ann asks David if he could do it again, would he still marry her and, to her surprise, he says no. Later that day they both find out that, due to a legal complication, they are not really married and, remembering what David said that morning, Ann kicks him out, leaving him to try - by fair means or foul - to woo her all over again.
A spoiled society girl is kidnapped by her disapproving father, then escapes and goes on a madcap road journey with an out-of-work journalist.
