State-of-the-art technology has been used by director Peter Jackson and his team to transform audio and video archive footage which is more than a century old to tell the stories of the men on the front line in a fresh way in this astonishing documentary. Utilising the BBC and Imperial War Museum archives to create a narrative, Jackson tells the day-to-day story of those who served using their own voices. Their own attitudes to the conflict reveal plenty, including how they ate, rested and formed friendships in the moments between battles, as well as their hopes and dreams for the future. The film has been hand-colourised by Jackson’s team in its entirety with modern post-production techniques, providing a revolutionary insight into World War One, allowing audiences to experience the conditions closer than ever before.
