School will often tell students why somebody is socially and historically important, but rarely do we get to hear the stories of how these people have inspired and energised change on a personal level. This part-animated and part-live action series of two-minute short films gives young people the opportunity to speak freely and celebrate their Black history heroes. With a timeline ranging from the 1800s to the present day, these figures represent everything from hope to motivation for each young person who speaks, captivating us with their life story. We here about famous icons such as political activist Martin Luther-King and tennis megastar Serena Williams alongside lesser-known but just as important Black figures like Katherine Johnson and Mary Seacole, with a focus on their, often groundbreaking, achievements. This series is a hugely accessible and bitesize entry point to prime students on certain historical and social topics they may not have been previously aware of.
