Synopsis

In the late 1970s, a young journalist sits down with the American wartime photographer Lee Miller. Surrounded by hundreds of archival photographs previously buried in the attic, her extraordinary story emerges. Forty years earlier, Lee was a retired fashion model living on the French Riviera, taking photos of fellow bohemians. But as World War Two breaks out, a restless Lee seeks out her former employers at Vogue magazine and starts work as a war correspondent. With her camera she documents the harrowing realities of the frontline, her unique perspective capturing both the devastation of war and the resilience of the human spirit. When the fighting ends, Lee accompanies the Allied forces all the way to the rumoured Nazi concentration camps – where what they witness buries itself deep in her soul. This portrait of a woman who defied societal expectations is a poignant reminder of the impact of images and truth-telling.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
