Maria Vatna was a brilliant Norwegian photographer who regularly recorded updates about her idyllic wilderness existence on a farm in Norway with her British husband, Nik Payne, and their three home-schooled children. When Maria was diagnosed with cancer, and subsequently passed away in 2019, Nik and the kids must not only confront the grief they endure upon losing a beloved member of their family but also their economic reality, being forced to move away from their wilderness farm and back to modern society. With their world suddenly, and irreversibly, changed, the children must adapt to attending public school whilst Nik sees himself taking on the role of sole breadwinner for the family. A heartfelt and poignant documentary on grief, loss and the fundamental pressures of modern society seen through the lens of different generations.
