Born in Frankfurt, Germany to Jewish parents, Hans Zimmer found early success in his career in Hollywood with ‘Rain Man’, picking up his first Oscar nomination for his work. From there he would go on to compose iconic scores for a diverse range of productions, from animated classic ‘The Lion King’ through to blockbuster franchises such as ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. The documentary also highlights his collaborations with auteur directors such as Steve McQueen, Denis Villeneuve, and most notably Christopher Nolan, with Zimmer providing the scores for ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’, and ‘The Dark Knight’. It explores how he has constantly pushed boundaries and reinvented his style over time, defying the rules he was taught during music school to create timeless pieces of work, with his modern work evolving to encompass David Attenborough nature documentaries as well as selling out live tours around the world.
