Captain James Stagg is a Scottish Met Office meteorologist attached to the Royal Air Force during World War II who is drafted into a special team led by future US President General Dwight Eisenhower, the man responsible for the plans behind the D-Day landings. Stagg must work alongside his colleagues in the US Air Force and Royal Navy to determine whether the weather conditions are going to be suitable for a mission in 72 hours, which Eisenhower and co desperately want to hear is true. Despite pushbacks from his contemporaries who use more traditional methods to track weather patterns – using data and conditions from previous years to try and predict the next few days – Stagg goes against the grain and warns his superiors that a storm is likely, forcing them to contemplate delaying the mission. ‘Pressure’ is a tense drama focusing on an aspect of the war rarely explored on screen, as well as issues around conformity and how expertise changes over time.
Classification infrequent strong language, moderate violence, injury detail
