Synopsis

This exuberant, Oscar-winning musical is not what you'd expect from the genre. It focuses on a Jewish community in 19th century Russia and the efforts of the lead character to marry off his three daughters. Systematic campaigns of violence, known as pogroms, were directed against the Jews, and life could be hard. But time was found for love, laughter and, of course, music, with the songs here truly revealing the heart of the characters.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
