The staff and trustees of Into Film were deeply saddened at the news of Sir Alan Parker's passing. His massive contribution to film could be seen in so many ways, not least as a founder of filmmaking charity First Light, which alongside Film Club, came together in 2014 to form Into Film.

"Sir Alan Parker was at heart a film fan and from a young age he was curious about how films were made", said Into Film CEO Paul Reeve. "He carried that childlike enthusiasm throughout his distinguished career, and through First Light he gave young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, the chance to create their own stories.

"In recognition of this, we will be creating a category in honour of Sir Alan Parker at the next edition of the Into Film Awards".
