Congratulations to all the staff and members of John Paul Academy, Glasgow, whose film club has been awarded Into Film Club of the Year: 13 and Over at the 2017 Into Film Awards.
John Paul Academy film club has been running for four years and prides itself on its inclusive and child-led approach. The film club is open to students from stages S1 to S6. There is a Junior Film Club, which appoints S4 mentors to share their knowledge and interest in film with younger pupils. The junior club members then progress to a Senior Film Club which focuses on using film to develop skills for life and work.
The film club leaders Jacqueline Thompson and Michael Daly encourage their students to discuss and review films they've watched in the club, explore the literature behind popular film adaptations, and to make films by taking part in Into Film's See It, Make It programme.
The Into Film Club of the Year: 13 and Over award was presented by a very special guest - none other than our Ambassador and Oscar®-winning actor, Eddie Redmayne. After presenting the jubilant film club with their award, Eddie spoke to us about his experience of the day: "I've been an ambassador for Into Film for a few years now, and I've always loved what Into Film does. Getting to come here to the Awards... the enthusiasm, the hard work, the tenacity has been very inspiring. I feel like 'inspiring' is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but some of the films I've seen here, and some of the people - both the students and the teachers - it's sent me off with a skip in my step. It's been brilliant."
Thank you so much for yesterday. The kids were all saying it was the best day of their lives.Michael, Into Film Club Leader at John Paul Academy
