Synopsis

Director Roland Emmerich was clearly influenced by sci-fi films ranging from War of the Worlds to Aliens, but no matter: this big-budget movie works on its own terms, as a fast-paced futuristic thriller with state-of-the-art CGI. Huge metal spaceships hover over the world but its inhabitants aren't friendly, ET-style aliens - they've come to wipe out the human race. So jet pilot Will Smith, computer genius Jeff Goldblum and US President Bill Pullman have to save the day.
