Synopsis

Set in the fictional, post-apocalyptic Australia of the Mad Max franchise, where water is scarce and gangs of vigilante bikers roam the desert, this is the story of Furiosa, one of the most feared warriors of this hostile wasteland. However, she was not always on this path of brutality. As a child, Furiosa grew up in The Green Place of Many Mothers, one of the last remaining areas of natural prosperity in the land – but after standing up to a gang of violent scavengers, she bears witness to her mother’s death and is kidnapped by a ruthless warlord, Dementus. Taken to the huge desert capital, The Citadel, Furiosa is determined to get revenge, eventually escaping the clutches of Dementus and his family by disguising herself as a mute boy - but instead of running, she opts to stay in The Citadel and rise amongst the ranks of warriors there until she can put her vengeful plan into action. With a vast world of eccentric characters and dangerous environments, this action prequel delivers some astounding set pieces whilst also musing over the appetite for revenge, the possibility of environmental collapse and the inherent dangers faced by women in a world ruled by men.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
